iSLanDS at TISLR12
We would like to congratulate our research fellow Dr Nick Palfreyman and our associate and alumnus Keiko Sagara on their successful presentations last week at the 12th International Conference on Theoretical Issues in Sign Language Research (TISLR12). Hosted by La Trobe University, the conference took place in Australia at the Melbourne Convention Centre from 4 to 7 January.
Nick and Keiko delivered a joint presentation entitled ‘The Difference: Variation in the Numerals of Japanese, Taiwan and South Korean Sign Language’, and Nick received the award for best presentation by an early career researcher for his talk called ‘Sign Language Sociolinguistics and the “Third Wave”: The Social Significance of Javanese Mouthings in an Indonesian City’. Congratulations also to Keiko, Prof Ritsuko Kikusawa and the Japan delegation who won the bid to host TISLR14 at the National Museum of Ethnology (Minpaku) in Osaka in 2022.
