We are pleased to report that the iSLanDS and NISH (National Institute of Speech and Hearing, India) joint SLEND training workshop was held from 23rd to 29th November at the NDFC Trust, Pattambi, India. The NDFC Trust is one of the local implementing partners in the “Peer to Peer Deaf Literacy” project.

This training, led by Sibaji Panda for our deaf Research Assistants and Peer Tutors in India, focused on further development of the bespoke online / mobile platform which has been designed to develop communicative competencies in English literacy for everyday reading and writing purposes. The participants learned about various aspects of the platform, planned for regional implementation of the overall literacy programme, which is being taught by Deaf tutors, and discussed next steps in the research that will lead to the final conference to be held in May 2016.
