We’re delighted to share some information about an exciting new resource for sign language development work and research. Working Together: The Manual for Sign Language Work within Development Cooperation was recently launched by the Finnish Association of the Deaf (FAD) and the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD).

It is available as seven chapters, each with a series of short films in International Sign, and a PDF in English. Our research fellow Nick Palfreyman was a consultant for this project. He commented: “The manual was produced through the dedication of a large team, led by the FAD and the deaf communities in Albania and Kosovo. ‘Sign Language Work’ is a specific model, based on their international cooperation, and includes certain roles, such as ‘advisor’ and ‘Sign Language Work staff’. In addition, the Manual explains many principles and practices that apply to sign language research in developing countries generally.”

We hope you will feel free to share this useful resource within your personal and professional networks.
