“Realising the link – Academics and deaf community development”

A workshop on linking academic work with community development in an international context will be hosted by the iSLanDS Institute on Monday 17 June in UCLan’s Greenbank building. The workshop focuses on the relationships between researchers and community leaders, and how we can best exploit these to strengthen capacity building and empowerment within deaf communities. Forging and sustaining these bonds is a key aim of iSLanDS, and the invited lectures, panel and round-table discussions at this workshop are intended to advance this agenda in the UK and internationally. Capacity building and scholarly work in deaf communities both rely strongly on deaf leadership, so we invite you to join us as we network and plan for future developments in this area.

We have invited lecturers, participants, and guests from the UK, the Netherlands, India, Turkey, and Jordan for this workshop.

The workshop is free of cost, includes catering throughout the day, and BSL/English interpretation will be provided. Please note that places are limited, so email Simeon Hart ( to book your place. A complete programme will be posted here as soon as available.
