Sibaji Panda, a lecturer at iSLanDS since 2006, has been awarded the prestigious ‘Best Professional Award’ by the Indian Association of Rehabilitation Professionals for his outstanding academic and rehabilitation work in India.  The award was presented by Dr Karan Singh, Member of India’s Upper House of Parliament, in New Delhi in 2011.

Mr Panda said: “I am happy to be the first Deaf professional getting such an honour. This will certainly motivate me and other Deaf individuals to work towards the betterment of education and rehabilitation of Deaf people in India.”

Alongside his course leader role and involvement in several linguistic research projects, Mr Panda has been instrumental in establishing several ground-breaking programmes in Indian Sign Language and has provided valuable consultation on sign languages, deafness and disability to a number of organisations including the Government of India. UCLan and iSLanDS are proud to announce the achievement of this Deaf member of staff.
