Cross-modal typology at iSLanDS

16 April, 2012

At iSLanDS, we are about to begin a new exciting phase of research in the typology of sign languages. As the next logical step up from Sign Language Typology, we have become interested in pursuing “Cross-modal typolopgy”, the systematic comparative study of substantial samples of both signed and spoken languages in relation to particular grammatical domains. As a first step, we are hosting a “Linguistics Research Symposium” on Cross-modal typology on 25 April, with David Gil from the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig as guest speaker. For details on this free, open event, see http://www.uclan.ac.uk/schools/journalism_media_communication/islands/linguistic_research_symposium.php
