Developing our BA in India

6 July, 2011

I spent just over a week in India, at our partner institution the Indira Gandhi National Open University in New Delhi. Deaf students are now studying in both the Bachelor Preparation Programme and the BA in Applied Sign Language Studies. The 40 current students will soon be joined by the third batch due to start in August/September – this time we have interest from Mexico and Burma as well. I was very impressed with the level of professionalism that the students in Delhi have developed; they managed a whole 2-day national conference (see http://webserver.ignou.ac.in/SIGN%20LANGUAGE/conf.html), and a group of students developed a wonderful “docu-drama” kind of short film about the quest for studying at university. We showed this film, titled “I STUDY CAN!”,  at our iSLanDS International Open Day last week.
