Sign language workshop in Turkey

3 November, 2010

I was invited to a sign language workshop by the Turkish Language Institute in Ankara in October. It was hard work functioning in Turkish for 2 days – here some typical (and long!) words from my powerpoint: geliştirilmesi (development of); yaygınlaşması (spread of); araştırmalarının (of research). For the first time ever in 8 years of attending such events in Turkey, there was no dispute about the value of sign language, which was great. Everyone was supportive, and concrete steps were decided. I look forward to supporting the creation of a sign language research centre in Ankara asap (inshallah).
